A delightful pastry combining rich chocolate and creamy cream cheese, wrapped in flaky puff pastry.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed (or 1 can crescent roll dough)
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • â…“ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tsp water
  • Optional: powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and fluffy.
  3. If using puff pastry, roll it into a 10×10-inch square. If using crescent roll dough, press the seams together and cut into 3-4 inch wide strips.
  4. Spread the cream cheese filling down the center of each strip and sprinkle chocolate chips over the filling.
  5. Fold or braid the dough over the filling to encapsulate it.
  6. In a small bowl, beat the egg and water to create an egg wash, then brush over the exposed dough.
  7. Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar and serving warm or at room temperature.

Notes

For a lighter version, use low-sugar cream cheese or whole wheat dough.
