Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless or bone-in steaks (sirloin, ribeye, or flank steak)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme (or ½ teaspoon dried thyme)
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Season both sides of the steaks with salt and pepper, then heat the oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and sear the steaks for 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare.
  2. Remove the steaks and let them rest. In the same skillet, add onions and cook over medium heat for 10-12 minutes until caramelized.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for another minute. Sprinkle flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Gradually add beef broth while stirring, simmer for 5-7 minutes to thicken.
  5. Add Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, thyme, and bay leaf, and simmer for another 2-3 minutes.
  6. Nestle the steaks back into the gravy and simmer for 5-10 minutes. Then remove steaks and let rest.
  7. Remove the bay leaf and stir in butter before serving. Plate the steaks and spoon the gravy over them, garnish with parsley.
