Ingredients

Apple Filling

  • 2 pieces apples, peeled and cut into small dice
  • 1 tablespoon dark brown sugar (packed)
  • 1.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon butter (melted)

Cinnamon Sugar Layer

  • ½ cup dark brown sugar (lightly packed)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Batter

  • ½ cup salted butter (softened)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (pure or artificial)
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • cup milk
  • cup sour cream
  • 1 pinch salt

Glaze

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray a loaf pan with nonstick cooking spray and set it aside.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the diced apples, dark brown sugar, and ground cinnamon. Drizzle the melted butter over the apples and mix gently to coat.
  • In a small bowl, mix gray brown sugar with ground cinnamon for layering.
  • In a stand mixer, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together milk and sour cream until combined.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this to the creamed mixture while mixing on low and drizzling in the milk and sour cream.
  • Spread half of the batter in the loaf pan, layer with half of the apple mixture, followed by half of the cinnamon sugar. Repeat with remaining batter, apples, and sugar.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown and a knife inserted comes out mostly clean, about 50 minutes.
  • Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract for glaze while baking.
  • Allow the bread to cool on a wire rack, then drizzle with the glaze before slicing and serving.

Notes

For best flavor, choose sweet and firm apples. Check for doneness; the knife should have a few moist crumbs when inserted. For a richer glaze, increase powdered sugar.
