Ingredients

Churro Dough

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil for frying vegetable oil Ensure oil is about three inches deep.

Cinnamon-Sugar Coating

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

Preparation of Dough

  • In a medium saucepan, combine water, sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Heat over medium-high heat until boiling, stirring occasionally.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the flour until a smooth dough forms, without lumps.
  • Allow the dough to cool slightly, then add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Finally, incorporate the vanilla extract.

Frying Churros

  • Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot over medium-high heat.
  • Prepare a large plate with paper towels to drain excess oil after frying.
  • When the oil reaches around 350°F (175°C), transfer the dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.
  • Pipe the dough into the hot oil in lengths of 3 to 4 inches, cutting with scissors or fingers. Fry for 2 to 3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  • Remove churros from oil and set them on paper towels to drain.

Coating

  • In a separate bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon. Roll warm churros in the mixture until fully coated.
  • Serve churros warm, optionally with a side of chocolate sauce for dipping.

Notes

Consider adding a pinch of nutmeg to the dough for extra flavor. For a creamier texture, use half milk and half water. Always monitor oil temperature for the best frying results. You can fill churros with dulce de leche or whipped cream for added indulgence.
