Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 buns brioche or sandwich buns, split
  • 2 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 6-8 oz mushrooms (button or cremini), sliced
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced (optional) Optional for added flavor
  • 2 slices Swiss cheese (or more to taste)
  • 2 patties beef burger patties (or sliced grilled chicken, optional) Can substitute with a meatless option
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • Optional toppings: mayo, Dijon mustard, sautéed spinach, garlic aioli Customize to your preference

Instructions

Cooking

  • In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tbsp of butter. Add the sliced mushrooms and onions, along with a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook until the mushrooms are golden and tender, about 8–10 minutes. Set aside.
  • In the same skillet or on a grill, cook your beef patties or chicken breast until done to your liking. Remember to season with salt and pepper for that extra flavor.
  • Spread the remaining butter on the split surfaces of the buns and toast them in the skillet until they are a beautiful golden brown.
  • Begin layering by placing a patty (or meatless option) on the bottom bun. Top it with Swiss cheese and a generous helping of the hot sautéed mushrooms. Allow the cheese to melt slightly, then crown it with the upper bun.
  • Present your Swiss Mushroom Melts hot, alongside fries, a crisp salad, or crunchy chips for the perfect balance.

Notes

To avoid overbaking the buns, keep an eye on them. Ensure the mushrooms are sautéed correctly for the perfect tender texture. Store leftovers by wrapping tightly or placing in an airtight container.
