Ingredients

For the Sauce

  • 1 cup granulated sugar Sweet base for the sauce.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the sugar with 1 cup of water. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
  • Add the cranberries to the pan and bring the mixture to a vigorous boil over medium-high heat.
  • Reduce the heat to medium and allow the mixture to simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the grated orange zest and a pinch of salt.
  • Let the sauce cool; it will thicken further as it cools.
  • Transfer it to an airtight container and refrigerate until needed.

Notes

This sauce can be made up to a week in advance. For a lower sugar version, consider natural sweeteners like honey or agave syrup. Store any leftovers in the fridge for up to a week or freeze for longer storage.
