Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Coat a 13 by 9-inch baking dish with cooking spray. Cut a 16-inch sheet of parchment paper and fold it to fit inside the dish, leaving overhang for easy lifting later. Spray the parchment with cooking spray.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the brown sugar and melted butter until the sugar dissolves into a gooey mixture.
  • Add eggs one at a time, whisking until fully incorporated. Blend in vanilla, baking soda, and salt until harmonized.
  • Gently fold in flour, chocolate chips, and M and Ms until just combined.
  • Transfer the cookie dough into the prepared dish, smoothing it with a spatula.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven until a tester inserted in the center comes out clean, around 35 to 40 minutes.
  • Allow the bars to cool in the dish for about one hour, then use parchment overhang to lift them onto a cutting board. Slice into 12 pieces.

Notes

These bars can be made up to one week in advance. Store in an airtight container at room temperature to maintain softness.
