Ingredients

For the cookie base

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted Make sure the butter is melted but not too hot.
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Can substitute with whole wheat flour for a healthier option.
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Feel free to use dark or white chocolate for variation.

For the topping

  • 1 cup crushed salted pretzels Crushed for a nice crunchy texture on top.
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips To sprinkle on top.
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil To combine with the pretzels and chocolate.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  • Gradually add the all-purpose flour and salt to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Fold in the first cup of chocolate chips.
  • Spread the cookie dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  • In another bowl, mix the crushed pretzels, remaining chocolate chips, and vegetable oil. Sprinkle this mixture over the cookie dough.

Baking

  • Bake for about 25-30 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set.
  • Allow the bars to cool in the pan, then lift out using the parchment paper and slice into squares or rectangles.

Notes

For best results, do not let the butter get too hot while melting. You can add extra crushed pretzels on top for added crunch before baking.
