Instructions

Preparation

  • Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  • Add 1 lb of ground beef or turkey to the pot and cook until golden brown.
  • Toss in 1 finely chopped onion and 3 minced garlic cloves. Stir frequently for about 3-4 minutes.
  • Pour in 1 can of crushed tomatoes and 4 cups of broth. Stir well.
  • Season with 1 tsp each of dried basil and oregano, plus 1/2 tsp of dried thyme. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  • Mix in 8 oz of uncooked short pasta, ensuring it is submerged, and bring to a gentle boil before reducing the heat.
  • Simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally for about 12-15 minutes until the pasta is tender.
  • Remove from heat and stir in grated Parmesan cheese if using.
