  • 1/4 tsp 1/4 tsp black pepper For a mild kick
  • 2 tbsp 2 tbsp vegetable oil For frying

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup 1/3 cup honey Providing sweetness and stickiness
  • 3 tbsp 3 tbsp soy sauce Giving depth and umami
  • 1 tbsp 1 tbsp rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar For a tangy twist
  • 1 tsp 1 tsp sesame oil Optional, adds richness
  • 2 cloves 2 garlic cloves, minced For aromatic flavor
  • 1/2 tsp 1/2 tsp fresh ginger, grated Optional, for warmth
  • 1 tsp 1 tsp cornstarch For the slurry to thicken the sauce
  • 1 tbsp 1 tbsp water For the slurry

Garnishes

  • Toasted sesame seeds For garnish
  • Sliced green onions For garnish

Instructions

Coat the Chicken

  • Toss the bite-sized chicken pieces in a large mixing bowl with the cornstarch, salt, and black pepper until evenly coated.

Cook the Chicken

  • Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the chicken in a single layer and cook for about 4 to 5 minutes on each side, until golden brown and fully cooked.
  • Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside on a plate.

Making the Sauce

  • In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium. Add honey, soy sauce, vinegar, and sesame oil, along with the minced garlic and grated ginger, and stir to combine.

Thicken the Sauce

  • Bring the sauce mixture to a gentle simmer. Stir in the cornstarch slurry and allow to cook for 1 to 2 minutes until thickened.

Combine Chicken and Sauce

  • Return the crispy chicken to the skillet, tossing it in the sauce until fully coated. Heat together for an additional 2 to 3 minutes.

Garnish and Serve

  • Transfer the chicken to a serving plate and garnish with toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions. Serve while hot.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding more garlic or ginger. Serve over rice or with stir-fried vegetables. For a different take, substitute chicken with tofu or shrimp.
