Ingredients

For the Chicken

  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into bite-size pieces
  • 0.5 cup cornstarch (or use flour)
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil (for frying)

For the Sticky Honey Sauce

  • 0.33 cup honey
  • 0.25 cup soy sauce
  • 1.5 tbsp apple cider vinegar (or rice vinegar)
  • 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh grated ginger (optional)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch for thickening, plus 2 tbsp water to make a slurry

Instructions

Preparation

  • Season the chicken pieces with salt and pepper, then toss them in cornstarch until evenly coated.
  • In a large skillet or wok, heat oil over medium-high heat until hot and shimmering.

Cooking

  • Add the chicken to the skillet, cooking until golden brown and crispy on all sides, approximately 6-8 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  • In the same pan, combine honey, soy sauce, vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil. Stir well and bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  • Prepare a cornstarch slurry by mixing one tablespoon of cornstarch with two tablespoons of water. Once sauce simmers, add the slurry and stir vigorously for 2-3 minutes until thickened.
  • Return the crispy chicken to the pan and toss until coated in the sticky sauce, heating through completely.
  • Serve over rice, noodles, or stir-fried veggies, garnishing with chopped green onions, sesame seeds, or chili flakes if desired.

Notes

For best results, allow chicken to come to room temperature before cooking. Consider marinating the chicken in the sauce for 30 minutes before cooking for more intense flavors.
